Patris Corde – With a Father's Heart

Saint Joseph embraced his role as “Guardian of the Holy Family.”  He protected our Blessed Mother, Mary and our Savior, Jesus Christ.  He guided them through danger and kept them from harm’s way.  We, too, must be guardians of the family – because Catholic families need defenders.  In a time when the family faces many challenges and a hostile culture, we must do our part to help men build strong marriages and raise faithful children.

Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly

What better example can Catholic men have on how to be a loving and faithful husband and father that Saint Joseph.  He is the epitome of masculinity – strong, noble courageous, self-emptying.  Saint Joseph teaches us what it means to be a good father and a good man.

Patris Corde, which translates to “with a father’s heart,” features seven short video lessons along with a study guide.  The seven lessons in the study guide features situational discussions on the mysterious life of Saint Joseph as scripture does not say very much about him, and he never said anything that was recorded in scripture.  He did not have to.  In Session Three, An Obedient Father, discussion features his three dreams: to take Mary into his house, to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt (which we figured to be a 650 mile walk), and to take his family from Egypt to Nazareth (about 750 miles).  Imagine the discussions Joseph had with Mary, including the planning and logistics of such a journey.  What kind of threats did they face, particularly with Herod’s troops on their heels.  The booklet provides some “conversation starters.”  By studying Saint Joseph through scripture and imaginative prayer, we will amaze ourselves on what kind of man that we know so little about.

The With a Father’s Heart booklet sells for $3.99 through KofC supplies and Catholic Information Service.
