Booklets and Devotionals from the CIS

The Knights of Columbus started the Catholic Information Service (CIS) in 1948 in response to blatant anti-Catholic bias. The web site linked below is a set of 97 booklets is the foundation of a library of “quick-look” reference to the Catholic Church, principles of our faith, practical issues for living healthy Catholic lives, and information on societal issues that every Catholic should be aware of.

The Hart Series booklets are intended to strengthen the beliefs of Catholics with a series of publications that summarize major elements of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  While these booklets are not a substitute for the Catechism, but booklets are colloquial readings that make its content more accessible.

The Veritas Series seek to spread the truth about a number of topics in the Catholic faith as well as numerous issues facing Catholics in the modern world.  The series includes guides to prayer, Catholic insights on dating, and reflections on the lives of saints and their thoughts.

The Domestic Church series are books that the Order published as part of its “Building the Domestic Church” initiative that places the focus of our lives on our families – the Domestic Church.  The booklets focus on issues of vital importance fir Catholic families seeking to build up and strengthen the Church at home.  These are the booklets that many Councils placed in a Kiosk in our churches for our fellow parishioners’ reading enjoyment.

The Devotional Series is a set of 10 booklets that can assist Catholics with practical devotions such as prayer, the Rosary, preparing for confession, and the Blessed Virgin Mary.  A popular booklet for Knights of Columbus, veterans and active Catholic military members is, “Armed with Faith – A Catholic Handbook for Military Personnel.”  It is also referred to as the “Armed Forces Prayer Manual.”  The “hard copy” booklets are intended for military members to carry with them when they are deployed for duty.  Archbishop for the Military Services, Timothy Broglio says, “This prayer book, conceived as a resource for Catholics wo heroically defend the Constitution and our Nation, serves as a tool for all people of good will who seek a practical resource for reflection and prayer.”  In other words, the Prayer Manual is an excellent resource for Cor.

Most all of these booklets devotionals are downloadable as .pdf files for free.  These e-copies happen to be the perfect size for a tablet computer – iPad, Android, Kindle.  Let your tablet become your electronic prayer book.
